Project Overview

ABOUT INTERIOR DEFINE

Interior Define is a made-to-order furniture company that specializes in creating sofas that meet customers’ needs. Customization options include collections, configurations, fabrics, legs, sizes, and more.

MY ROLE

As the only product designer on this project, I led user testing, competitive analysis, and stakeholder meetings. I worked very closely with a product manager, several developers, and stakeholders such as Marketing and Merchandising.

THE PROBLEM

Interior Define had plans to grow its product assortment significantly over the next few years. The initial navigation design was very specialized and was not very flexible. We also wanted to ensure that as the navigation grew, that it stayed simple and easy-to-use, since that was something that was different from most competitors and user tested very well.

THE SOLUTION

I worked very closely with the Merchandising team to get a sense of how the assortment might change. I then created several templates for the navigation that would give options depending on how complex a category was. Since this redesign was in tandem with our category page redesign, I was able to keep the navigation high-level and then let users filter down. I also used images wherever possible to explain industry terms and ensure minimal reading.
